Woke

Woke means
awake, but it means more than that. It means conscious. It means being aware of your surroundings and of the injustice going on around you. It does not mean “woke” is a religion, a movement, a club, a gang, a cult, a team. It means you are a human being. You care about the world and the people in it. You notice when people like yourself are oppressed and when people like yourself are oppressed you want to be a part of the solution. You are willing to work for the change you want to see in the world. It means you are willing to put your money where your mouth is, to have opinions that are unpopular, to be uncomfortable, to do things that are uncomfortable, to get your hands dirty, to risk losing friends, to lose money. It means you are willing to lose your life.

To be woke is to know that you are in a system of oppression and there are people who are working hard to make that system better. It means you know that you do not have all the answers and that you are aware that the answers you do have are not perfect. It means you know that you are not the best and that your opinion is not the best. It means you know that the best is still out there.
